Caldwell’s textile panels are inspired by the repetition of her daily walk and the mundane surroundings during lockdown. She uses the stitching and the weaving to echo the ritual of the journey. This could potentially be a mundane activity for some but it was comforting and created solace to the artist. Her concern was to portray the similarities between the repetitiveness of the grid within the embroidery, printed fabric, the weave and QR codes.
Caldwell is interested in the influence of location, so the use of the embroidered QR codes can be utilised by the audience to virtually see the work in the site of inspiration. Digital prints were also applied within the panels and the use of loose wires and fibres to echo its connection with the virtual world.
