Joseph Sharp's work explores his relationship with drawing and the state of meditation he is transported into to create his drawings.
Through repeated experiments with drawings, Sharp has become enlightened to certain characteristics that enhance his state of meditation. The subject matter plays a significant role in his state of meditation: using his Grandad for this body of work has allowed him to explore locked-down emotions, and through the process of drawing he has become more self-aware.
Through a drawing of his Grandad at an age similar to his own, Sharp can understand his relationship to a recently lost loved one. The drawing is accompanied by a video presenting the process Sharp undertakes. With text layered over the video displaying notes taken through the process, it is possible to see into the working of his mind during the creation. Sharp is concerned with art's ability to aid in healing and has carried out this theory within this body of work, and as a result has taken steps to becoming aware of the process and its benefits.
