Joseph Sharp's work explores his relationship with drawing and how a meditative state can be achieved through this activity. His portraits represent his present and future self. The process of making allows for an examination of how Sharp feels in the present and enables him to recognise who he is and what he wants to be. Sharp makes his own charcoal; this is part of the physical process that manifests itself in his exploration of his well-being.
